Someone offered me a stevens 12 gauge single shot as part of a trade. He said he hasn't shot it in 20 years. I mostly want something for trap singles shooting that I don't have to bend over to pick up shells. It is a 3 inch chamber. Do you fine fellas think it could be a suitable gun if in good shape?

We have a 16 ga. version and it's a pretty sweet shooter. I wouldn't call it a "good" trap gun, but for fun shooting, it's definitely workable. I'd recommend that if you really want to do trap shooting you get an over-under as you will probably get more consistent hits, especially on doubles. Don't get me wrong, i've gotten good hits with my .410 single, but it takes work to get there. ;)

As long as it shoots straight i think it would be fine for singles. I was using a mossberg 500 and don't like having to pick up shells

I also do not have money for an over under, but pending orders to connecticut I may have some after selling a couple ar15 rifles :(:(:(

There's been some decently price over unders. Perhaps not match grade, but the EAA and Stoeger's are usually available under $400 used and I've seen some that need some TLC in the finish dept. for about $250.

Brand new at buds for $487, which while not cheap is probably doable. They do lay away, so you don't have to come up with all up front quite often. ;)

I have used lay away plans at my local gunshop here many times to get something I couldn't stomach the whole kitty at once. hehe

CZ's are only a small amount more and seem to have slightly nicer wood just over $500:

Tri-Star has some moderately priced for slightly nicer finish also at $494:

Those would be the kind of guns I would be able to get if I have to sell my "assault" rifles. Got 3 kids, enlisted pay.... blah blah blah.... If I get orders like I want to norfolk.... well... I will be a happy man even if I have the worst boat in the Navy :D

Well good luck man. Hopefully, you won't have to sell something to get what you desire some day. ;)

Hey I have a great wife, great kids, and 3 great dogs, plus a little poodle mix I might have to eat one day.... so things are pretty good for me no matter what it looks like

Actually when I was really interested in trap the cz seemed to be the ticket for me. I hate buying foreign stuff but I do have a czech heritage so I can make an exception on cz

Well, I'm glad you said that, because I forgot that Mossberg was making a decent one for about the same also, called the silver reserve:

They do have it in more expensive flavors also, but this one is their base version o/u. 8)

I thought Mossburg was importing that from Turkey rather than making them. There has been some quality issues with the Turkey guns.

You don't have to pick up shells with a pump.
Just learn to pull back the handle slow and pick the empty out with your fingers.
I normally roll the gun on its side so the empty is pointing straight up when the gun is opened slowly.
You can also roll it down and drop the empty out into your hand.

As long as it shoots straight i think it would be fine for singles. I was using a mossberg 500 and don't like having to pick up shells

I used a 16 ga. for my first 2 years of small game. also use it for deer that was when the stores broke a box of shells. I think slugs were .25 each.

now I have a 12 ga. keep it in the pantry by the back door with a hand full of shells it has taken groundhogs, opossums a fox. and crows that come close.

I did not know they made them in 3" all I have ever seen were 2 3/4"

I've got that same gun in 410, and I wouldn't part with it, unless the price was way out of line (on the high side).

I was told the shotty was a model 94 series p serial number starting with d. I think I'm gonna take it since the rifle I am trading NEVER gets used, nor the reloading accessories. There is a cracked in the stock I will have to fix but no big deal. Does anyone know much about that model specifically? I haven't found much Google searching.
