Could someone with a stock 91/30 grab a caliper and give me a front sight post height from center bore?

Thanks.

do you want from the center of bore to top of post, or base of post?

Top of post please. I have 2 globes with different pins heights and would like to start from the OEM "zero" point for a 91/30.

Sounds like someone is having fun. I just put a Russian made diopter sight on the rear sight dovetail of mine. Of course with it being that far forward I got to have a big hole in the eyepiece. I'm up to .190" and just getting the circle within a circle sight picture I want.

I'm not sure how to get a measurement from center bore apparently, but my front sight post is around .285" tall. a very rough measurement from center bore is around 1", maybe a hair less. hope this helps.

1/2 barrel OD at midpoint of sight base, + height of site base to base of pin, + height of pin.

Yeah. I've put a set-screw mounted barrel-band sight base on my chopped 91/30, but the globe I'm using obviously has too short of a pin because I'm hitting 8" high at 150m with the rear sight bottomed out at the 100m notch.

Mine is .595" barrel OD at front of sight base. From bottom of barrel to top of front sight post is 1.195" So .595"/2~.298" 1.195"-.298"=.897"~.9"
I think 0.9" would be a close enough approximation for mine anyway

I've got .590" OD and 1.225 from bottom of barrel to top, so I come out with .93" from center

The way mine is set up now, I have a globe with a .285 post on a .339 base .316 from center (.940)

But it shoots High.

My other globe has a .330 post which would bump my sight to .985

Given those numbers, I don't quite get WHY it is shooting so high, but there we are...

Each Mosin is a law unto itself, that's why. :)

Yeah you'd need to know the rear sight height as well to compare. Just put the taller sight post on and shoot it! Lol. Or put a short section of heat shrink tubing over the existing post to make it taller.

This is a real good approach to getting a Mosin sighted in. Allows you to find out what's needed and make a change without having to spend any more or alter the rifle. The nice thing is, it's removable.
