Got the opportunity to get 450lbs of solder on the roll, label says 10/88/2 SRA .062 solder. Guy wants $1.00/roll, 1lb rolls....anyone have any thoughts? Decent buy, not worth it, etc. I know it's 10% tin 88% lead and 2% silver, thought it might work well mixed 50/50 with pure to hit 16-1 lead tin alloy.
What's the consensus? It's way more than I need, so I don't know whether to jump on it or not....

That's $10/lb for tin. You can buy pewter on here for $8-9/lb shipped. Don't know if shipping is in his price.

Using this logic you would be getting 9 pounds of FREE lead.
Seems like a good deal to me.

10% tin in a pound is 700 grains, 10% of a dollar is .10 cents or $1.00 a pound for tin. sounds like a great deal to me.

You have 45#s of tin ~ $10/lb - $450, 396#s of pure lead $1/lb ~ $396 and 9#s of sliver ~$20 an ounce ~ $2880 shame you couldn't seperate this.

Even if you just figure the tin and the lead it worth $1.88 a pound.

Not sure if I am close to you but if I am I would help take some of this. Mix it 50/50 with pure or 2,3 or 4 ww to one of these for a good mix.

Good find.

ps love your sig line!

If all you want is the tin, it is expensive to buy all that lead to get it. If you don't mind paying 90 cents a pound for lead, then have at it.

The silver has no value since it's mixed with tin and lead. You can't recover it and it just winds up as a contaminant in your alloy at a tiny percentage. Doesn't hurt anything, but doesn't help either.

All depends on where you live, around here its a $1.75 a pound. Paying a buck a pound would be a God sent.

Free would be even better but sure if that's all I could get. Think about that it cheaper for me to pay $1.15 a pound on this site than to go to the salvage yard and pay $1.75. Been given free lead but not much maybe 5 pounds here and there but never enough for my addiction.

EDIT: Think about it this way store bought lead boolits will cost you $4.50 a pound.

For what it is worth, The silver is not a bad addition. I have tested some boolits that were 2.5 % Silver and 97.5% Lead. (This is the eutectic mix of those two elements.) They were VERY similar to Clip on Wheel Weights in hardness.

If you bothered by the price, then offer the guy less. He is trying to get rid of it. I think you could sell it all here for at least a $1 per pound + shipping.

The price isn't a steal, but not bad either. The silver will make better looking boolits. If ya need the tin, it's cheaper than pure, and less work than looking for pewter.
