Ive found diameter of major and minor diameters of the barrel shank for 1903-A3 .734" long 1.040" major and .990" minor with 10 T.P.I. square threads . What I cant find is width of tool to cut the threads .

Could someone help me out with this ? :bigsmyl2:

I found it finally ! According to Dunlop book tool is .051"+.002" wide .

It's a square thread. 10 tpi would work out to be .050 width per thread. You don't want it that wide though as it would be interference fit (reads won't go together). So, cutter width.051? You can look in Machinery's Handbook or any of a hundred thread dimension/cutting books and get industry standard specs and instructions. Might even find something on google.

Keep in mind that there are small leading and following angles that must be somewhat accurate or the tool will drag on the sides of the cut.

The book I mentioned I found info in was Roy Dunlops Gunsmithing . The .051" I guess was minimum groove width needed to screw the barrel in and +.002" for clearance for ease of screwing barrel in making groove dia. .053".

We'll see ..............this is the first Springfield barrel Ive threaded up .

This is the correct answer. I just about ruined a barrel using a tool I had ground to what was supposed to be the proper specs.
