For those who care, Discovery Channel has started delivering a new season of Sons of Guns on Friday nights. The projects are interesting but too much drama. It aired at 9:00 Eastern time for us.

When the reality shows started they weren't to bad but now they are scripted to get as much drama as they could.
Quit watching when they did that.

SOG is one reason my TV has been dark for close to two years now. "Reality" TV is "all hat, no cattle" as far as I'm concerned. SatTV is a waste of time & money, cable is worse.
Pull the plug, read a book, read a magazine, surf the net, interact with another human. TV is the worst timesuck I'm aware of. If you have to watch something on a screen snag a movie out of the $5 bin WallyWorld and get gack to life when the credits roll.

Only reason I have cable TV is for the discount I get on my internet. I just stream movies or real tv shows off the internet. Which is to bad, SOG was at least humorous as well as enjoyable at first. Then the BS drama started and it went down hill.

I watch it just to see the big guns and goodies I will never be able to afford.

I just saw a bit from the EMT lounge between patients. I love seeing the guns, hate the scripted drama BS. I wish they'd listen to our feedback and make it easier to stomach watching.

The sad thing about this and other reality gun shows, is the stupidity shown by those who are portrayed as gunsmiths. I would not want them anywhere near my guns. Yes its nice to see guns I will never be able to have again but they should chuck the scripts in the bin.

It is better than the show about the idiot in Den CO that Hollywood bought him a gun shop.

Holy Holywood Hackjob Batman!

I got so tired of everybody and their brother upon hearing I was a gunsmith telling me that I really "need" to watch this totally awesome show on TV. I told them that I suns of guhns is not totally awesome, it's not real, and I don't have to watch anything.
In fact, I don't have dish or cable.......at all.
In absolute shock they repeat back my words like any good zombie would do: You don't have cable? You don't watch TV?

NO I DO NOT WATCH TV. I'M TOO BUSY DOING IT FOR REAL.

Red Jacket's TV show has them manufacturing some really far out

Bravo Sierra products, Nuff said there.

With all the typical DRAMA of a scripted production of very limited value. :violin:

Reality TV made to keep the average uninformed public interested. Too much BS too exotic builds simple fiction made for TV.

I see people say they watch no TV. They read books, magazines, surf the net....Watch Movies...... I guess everything in those outlets are true. No dramatizing scripts, nothing embellished to add entertainment value........ Good to know.

Lemme see? Friday night I was sorting the days take of a pail of wheel weights and then a buddy brought over a gun he wanted me to help mount a scope on. Yup, didn`t miss a thing not watching that toilet refuse from a horse barn they call entertainment. Don`t care if he claims to be a vet from the Corps - this is a waste of intelligent time.Robert

Actually watched some last night for the first time in awhile. Tuned in half way through the show as the program info had SOCOM in the description. Evidently missed that part but saw a lot of BS and drama going on - he is being evicted in 60 days.

I wonder if they realize that real craftsmen might watch their show.
They are parts assemblers and armorers. Every time they tried to actually "create" something on that show it ended up looking like a backyard hackjob. Case in point (pun intended) was their little folding lunchbox uzi thing with the flashlight. My eyes were bleeding by the time the show was over. Why in the name of all that is sacred would you actually admit to creating something like that? If I had a guy working for me that used my equipment to make such garbage, God is my witness I would either watch him run a chop saw through it, or I would watch him run out of my shop at gunpoint after I canned his little "side project".

Goodsteel. I have to disagree with you. Calling them parts assemblers and armorers is to kind. Backyard hacks is more like it.

Well I admit to watching it yesterday while my mom was sleeping and my older sister who has been taking care of her had a well deserved rest as well.. She is probably on her last bit of go now, and we were down while we could still be with her.

That said, I also have to admit that it was a bunch more drama than I bargained for, and I won't be watching it anymore.

You don't have cable? You don't watch TV?

AMEN to that brother. I get the same reaction from folks I work with who carry on about this or that they saw the night before, and how I should sign up. Then I listen to them explain how they don't have ammo, cause they don't have their press yet or can't find cheap dies and such. I just tell them, "well thats what all those cable and satellite channels are good for".

I only get whatever comes in locally through the airwaves and that ain't much. Heck I am only one step above dial up here, and at the farm I am on dial up and only get one channel in English and another in Hispanic on the tube. I do try and catch the weather while we're up there, though that is about it.

I read at least two hours or more a day, some here on the net and plenty in books. It amazes me at what some folks call entertainment nowadays.

Any positive depiction of the gun culture is a plus. While I agree that the drama is the reason for the shows, they show our guns in a good light.
These shows aren't produced with us in mind. It is for those who live a drama filled life. It's for those that relish drama. Most all the so called reality shows are produced by the same group. As long as the ratings stay high, this is where its at.
All the complaining we do, falls on deaf ears until the ratings fall.

Yep, They blow.....Stuff up and if your one of the ones that are invited to his Birthday bash then a lot of the guns you see on tv are at the bash and heck even the wife enjoyed the F.Auto's.
Range masters are U.S.Marines.

I have a very hard time calling this show "a positive depiction of the gun culture".

Contrary to the tripe that is that show, Midway USA has a channel on youtube. For the past few weeks they have been running little segments with a proper old school English gunsmith. They have been working on double barrel shotguns, from tear downs for cleaning to setting the barrels back on face, to things in between. Very interesting to watch.
Here is a link to start the series;
