I've just acquired this set of scales but can find very little information about them. They were obviously made by or for CH tool & die and I guess date from about the 1960's.

They seem to have several features that I usually associate with Hornady scales. They are good quality (of their type) three poise and completely un-damped.

A google search fails to find much information or pictures. Any one come across these before?

It look much like a Redding scale I had. It was dampened with oil in a cavity under the pivot point. The beam had a paddle under the pivot point that was dampened by the oil. I always ran mine dry.

I had one of those, but marked "Redding." However, it was also marked "Pelouze." They're still in business: http://www.uline.com/Grp_158/Shipping-and-Weighing-Scales?pricode=WF331&gclid=CPnyj9avob0CFWuhOgod5G0Ayw

I agree it looks similar to the Redding No1 but there are several differences. The Redding is a simple two poise scale, this is three and the knife edge bearings are made from shaped wire with no end-plates. This scale doesn't need the endplates because the knife edges are scalloped out on one side as on the Hornady "M" scale. There's no oil paddle or well on this scale.

There is a simple levelling screw on the left hand side but no balancing nuts, as on the Hornady scales, or weight pan as on the RCBS scales.

Like many things, scales weren't necessarily made by the folks that sold them. I believe the resemblance to several vendor's scales is because they were made by a third party and re-named/re-branded...

Just this minute had a reply from the chap who owns CH tool & die to say the scales were made by Webster, Florida who also made the Hornady scales.

I have an old oil damped Webster RW-1, I should have seen the connection, the three poise beam is exactly the same.

1066, That beam is exactly the same as my Hornady. Webster must have really gotten around back in the day! I have seen that scale body with just about everyone's name on it! LOL

1066, I have found some pics of a Webster Scale but it is different from yours, maybe an earlier? or later version?. It does show some of the accessories that came with it. Here is the Link. http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/Vtg-Webster-RS-Powder-Scale-Boxed-15572944.html
Hope this link works. There is in 1 of the pics that show the address of the company

I have an old Redding scale but it's balance beam is made of brass. I also have an old Herters which I like better because it has a metal bracket that allows you to stop the bounce of the beam with your left thumb. I never saw this feature on any other scale.

Ahh! - Now that's interesting. A close look at the photos in that link show some common parts with my scale and also my Webster RW-1.

I think the object shown in the link is not a scale but a "comparator". I think there should be a sliding weight on the long arm. There is no weight markings on the arm, the separate grain weights are used to balance the scale at the charge you want by sliding the weight up or down the arm. Once set, all charges are the same.

That scale and many others were made be webster. You can only calibrater if you use the level screw. The original pan will regulate the calibration. If it is the original Pan It should calibrate. If not There are 2 things you can do.
If the pan is too light you can add some weight to it by adding some tape Or a small washer to the bottom. If the pan is too Heavy. try to find another or plastic pan. If not you will have to file some metal off the small handle to make it lighter. First determine how much weight you need to make the adjustment

Thanks for that Sal. This ones all complete with the original pan and balances out well. In fact it's a very sensitive scale, showing a beam deflection with a single kernel of Varget. I don't really intend to use it, just added it to my stack of 30'ish other beam scales.
