It'll never work, I'll PM you disposal instructions.......CONGRATS! Never seen the Lyman boolit so can't help you there.

The noe 200 gr.(rcbs clone) has been a tackdriver in my whelen with a 1:14 twist. It's more nose bearing than the lyman 205 gr. The nose bearing portion of the lyman is shorter, beautiful boolit though.
I bought a lyman 205 gr. mould last summer and with wheel weight alloy it would barely pour .358 dia, mostly .357". The noe pours at slightly over .360 with wheel weight.

Me thinks, that is not a suitable Colorado gun, it should be sent to Alaska where it would feel at home.

Hi Mike,

I've been having excellent results with the RCBS 35-200-FN mold. The nose of this bullet is an interference fit with the chamber in my rifle and I believe that enhances accuracy. I'm using data for the same weight jacketed bullet from http://www.hodgdon.com/ . Right now I'm getting 2250 fps with these 200 grain cast bullets. Using the factory open sights (which I like very much) the six-inch gong at 100 yards is hard to miss. See this thread:

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?231192-358-blr

Take care, Tom

Hey Mike
no need to apologize about not being a hunter
true I hunt but I certainly spend more time punching holes in targets than in game..
enjoy that .358 savage

I use the RCBS 200 in my featherweight 99 AND in my wifes 99 .358 A. Both shoot about 1 1/2 at 100yds with it sized to .359. 20 to 25 grains Reloader 7 or H4198.

Mine likes that RCBS 200 grainer and 35 grains of 3031 so far. I plan on it being my main deer rifle this next season.

Hi Rich,

Mine likes that RCBS 200 grainer and 35 grains of 3031 so far. I plan on it being my main deer rifle this next season.

That is a very light load, about 70% of maximum. IMR 3031 is good about being loaded lightly. What muzzle velocity are you getting with it? I'll bet it's very accurate!

Take care, Tom

No 45/70, what is up with that. They are deadly on paper. lol
I shoot left handed as well, and started out with a 99, so am partial to them, but only have the 300 in it.
I am not picky though as I have 22, 308me, 45 colt and 45/70 in marlins and 30/30 in winchester. I looked at a 35 rem marlin yesterday, but I really want a 358 M99 and as you can see there is a hole in my stash that it would fit nicely in. I could also find a place to keep a 375 win in the 99 real easy too. lol

35 Remington is a good idea!
Where's your 22LR, 25-20, 32-20, 357 magnum, 375 or 38-55, 444 or 45-70
how about 243, 250-3000, 7mm'08, 300 Savage, and 308
- you got a ways to go.
My Savage 99 pretty much same vintage as yours

it seems not to picky about cast boolits
I've used 158 grain pistol booits

Of what's out there the RCBS or NOE clone is a very good choice.

I've not chronoed that load, but basically I took it from Goodsteel's posting about "I believe the cast lead bullet to be..." in the hunting forum.

I loaded nine rounds, took it to the range, all nine went inside four inches at 100 yards, however, the first three from a clean barrel made up for more than half that, the last six went into about 1 3/4".

I should caveat that that groupd was with some old Carrol commercially cast bullets I had, but looking at them, I am sure they are identical to the RCBS bullet. Not sure what their alloy is and they are sized to .358. Now that I have cast some from my mold and have a .359 and .360 sizers, I'm pretty sure I can better than groupiong fairly easily, then I may move up on powder charge. I don't need or want a real thumper, .35 Remington ballistics will be just fine. I've killed a couple of deer on average for the past 16 years around here and all have been inside of 100 yards, most much closer that than. The last three I shot with breach loaders were with .30 caliber cast and it wasn't that difficult, this .358 oughta be a cinch.

in my 99R 358wcf I use the Accurate 35-210B and the RCBS 35-200-FN. My RCBS mould dropped .3585-.359" with wheel weights so I opened up the two driving bands to drop @ .361" but left the front band forward of the crimp groove alone.

What? No 32-20? No 38-40? No 38-55? No 44-40? You call yourself a levergun collector? You have a nice start but those little buggars have a way of reproducing. Sure sign of a pending arrival is when an empty rifle case starts riding around in the trunk of your car....

ok in the early stages of load work.
i have three lots of 358 brass
new old stock ww, new winchester, and fire formed new 7.62x51 1980 lc brass.
they weigh 165.x, 175.xand from 175-180 for the lake city.
here is the kicker....
the volume is nearly identical for the three groups.
57.0, 56.8 and 56.9 for the lc.....
this is actually a good thing , i think
two new rcbs pots on the way and a couple of molds in the mail.

Last weekend I did a test of Winchester and LC-68 cases. The charges were into the necks before 200 grain Remington RN bullets were seated, but the LC-68 cases appeared to have powder a little higher up in the neck. Velocities were 31 fps higher in the LC-68 cases, and by the Student's t-test the difference was statistically significant. My conclusion is that there is a difference, but that in cool weather the difference is not important. However, I intend to repeat the test this summer, as the difference may be important in hot weather.
