Title says it all. What is the longest round most of the Mikuro Winchester 1886's can cycle and chamber?

A lot of it has to do with the shape of the bullet (ogive). I own two Winchester/Miroku guns. One is a Win 1886 and one a Win 1885, both in 45-70 and recent made models. Using Rem 405g JSP I found that both were 2.655" as received. After Turnbull ran a reamer through them they were 2.774". When I got the guns I couldn't close the lever on either gun without some effort which told me the bullet was jammed into the rifling. Trimming the case to the col and seating the bullet to the bottom crimp grove was still a press fit. SAMMI specs on this caliber have no throat at all. The 1886 will cycle any length, it just won't chamber any length. If you use shorter bullets, such as 300g, no problem. If you use bullets without a blunt end, you may not have a problem. The easiest thing to do is run a reamer in there and then you can use anything.
