I recently lucked into a Remington 700 in .222 Rem, 1964 manufacture. The rifle shoots very accurately with jacketed in the 40-50 gr. range, and also shows promise with the 225415. I was wondering if anybody on the forum has tried the smaller 225438 (44 gr.) boolit in this caliber rifle, and also which powder has shown the best results. Thanks in advance.

I shot lots of 225438s in the 222 I had (M788 Rem). It shot them very well loaded over Bullseye (for .22LR level loads), 4759 and H4895. I found the 225462 to be the best cast bullet for the .222 and the .223 though. You might keep an eye out for that mould.

Maybe the heavy metal 62gr would work well for ya too.... And they had them in stock last time I checked....

Larry, that was the kind of answer I was looking for. Thanks. I'll start looking for the 225462. Loverin as far as I remember.
As for the Heavy Metal 62, with a 14" twist I doubt I'll get good accuracy. I have shot a few of the NOE MX3, and they seem to have stabilizing issues. That's why I was inquiring about the shorter boolits.

I use the 438 in my K-Hornet, 223 Rem Contender 23" bull barrel, and have shot it in my son's AR15. Works great in all of them. Especially accurate in the K-Hornet as it has a match chamber cut by Gary Reeder in a 21" tapered Contender barrel that was a 22 LR.
I cast with linotype mostly as it fills out so mush better. I have heat treated the lino and shot them with Hi-Tek coating to 3,619 fpe in my Contender 223.

powder2400 about 6.5 or 6.8 same gun as yours /1600fps
I never push it any higher because I also shoot it in a 223

Well I stepped up and ordered a NOE 45 gr. RF 4-banger mould (BRP design). It's similar to the 225438 (which is still in production), and the 4-cav will help the output. I'll take the advice and cast them from pure lino.
