Went into a LGS just to browse, as have been gone about a week on a business trip. Nothing real interesting till I went into the side room where some interesting stuff shows up.

There on top of the wall was a Marlin pre-crossbolt 357 mag rifle!!!!!!! Pulled it down quickly as a couple of guys walked in after me. Too a look at it and the bore (:() ,but owner took it to the back and ran a brush down it and it cleaned up well. Bit of haggling and it followed me home. Don't see these things around here for long. He said he put it on the shelf Friday.

Very nice find. Several friends have them. I haven't been able to talk them into parting with one of theirs yet, but they do let me shoot it occasionally. I keep hoping that one of these days I'll stumble into a good deal on one.

Good score. I always wanted an 1894 as a kid, I used to gaze at them in the catalog. One day when I was 19 I walked into a shop and they had one just like yours on the shelf for $279.95, about as nice as a used rifle could be. My little $6.30/hour paycheck could only cover part of it, the rest had to go on the plastic. That was back in 1998 and I've put more rounds through that little carbine than all my other centerfires combined. I wouldn't sell it for three times the price.

Wow, that's a nice find, those are my favorite rifles for popping targets!

That is on my want list, problem is my want glands got out of control last couple of months, so it will remain on want list longer still

I have three 1894's in the safe. The .357 gets shot the most.

I picked up one of those little gems about ten years ago... between myself and my three kids that gun has put nearly 250 pounds of lead back into the enviornment... 120 to 158 grains at a time. Yeah, it's the "most fired" gun in my collection, because it's just so much dang fun!

Mine had problems with the extractor breaking. Replaced two before I traded the rifle.

Nice when you can find some of the older production Marlins.I was rambling through Cabelas on a western trip and came up with a like new 336 in .38/55.Just ordered a brass mold for that rifle.
So with your .357 is it micro grooved?
