View Full Version : Copper plated lead shot?

I'd like to explore hardening some alloy I have. For best results it needs a small amount of arsenic. The most convenient source of arsenic used to be lead shot, preferably magnum shot. However, I'm having difficulty finding any locally and I'd rather not mail order a gigantic, expensive bag when I need so little. I did find a small quantity of Lawrence copper plated shot. I have no idea what this would do. I suspect it'll be useless and just contaminate the mix. Anybody have any info that may be of help?

I am seeing bags of shot of all places in one of my local Wal Marts, they are carrying presses and other reloading items. i got nothing for the copper plated shot question though.

not all Walmarts carry reloading supplies. There are 3 of them near me (10-12 miles) and only one of them carries a limited amt of reloading stuff. the other two only carry BP stuff.

Can't help you there, but never thought of adding copper plated shot, to get some copper in the mix. The copper makes for a pretty tough boolit.

Clip on wheel weights tend to have more than enough Arsenic to help out with water dropping. Even if you "bite the bullet" and buy a 25# bag of shot @$50 it will last a long time.
