A buddy of mine is getting back into reloading, and i am trying to help him get started back on the right track... He just got a brand new Ruger 460, on a trip to anchorage.... Which leads me to my questions..... He is off on a remote fish hatchery and has the gun with him with some j-words... If I had acces to the gun, i would slug the bore and know what I need to know, but dont have access... In the mean time, i casted up some light 240 gr 45 cal cast boolits for him, and have a bunch of 45 brass in the tumbler as we speak.... When he gets back, i would love to hand hime some brass and some boolits to help him get used to his gun before I cast some heavy wrist munchers for him.... I need to know about what size to size these about... I would rather make them a bit too big, then a bit too small... Anybody got one of these monsters and have some experience with what they would normally run for boolit size???? I dont own a 45, and dont reload for them.... But i do t want him to get a bunch of cast boolits to start re-loading and have then lead the crud outta his new toy.....

Thanks guys...

I don't own one, but a friend of mine does, and I gave him some high powered corbons that I had picked up. His coisin shot two of them in his and they locked it up, so he shot one in his ruger #1 and it locked it up.

It will shoot 460, 454 and 45 colt. The guys I know have 8 and 3/8 barrels. I know another guy that has one of the survival kit ones that comes in the yellow box with a 2 in barrel. It is not even shootable with factory 460 rounds, and if you do light one off, you had better have some goooood ear protection. lol

Yeah, i am not sure what is meant by "460 ruger"

Maybe some new round we havent heard of?

There is 480 ruger, 475 linebaugh...460 smith & wesson magnum..no ruger beyond 454 casull that ive seen. Please show me this new beast, i may be interested...

If indeed 460 s&w magnum, i have a few tidbits that may be useful. Otherwise i am stumped and looking for info!

Hey... What do you expect for no glasses... The 6 and the 8 are so close together on my iphone....

Gun is a 460 smith and wesson.... 5 in... It doesnt help that i got a teenager giving me info that dont know nuthin...lol... But i am sure its my fault....lol.... If it aint a 44, then i know nuthin...

I know nothing about the 45 cal stuff, and the only one I ever owned in my life was a 1911, and I sold that many years ago... I am just trying to find out what to size boolits at....

I have to look into this. I was not aware of any Ruger chambered in 460 S&W. Was this one custom made?

Ok, that makes sense!

All my loading books suggested .452" so that's where I started
Slugged the bore at about .4505". Cylinders showed about .451"

I can't push a .452" boolit through the cylinder mouths, so I tried sizing .451"

I've liked the change.. Easier chambering, easier extraction, better accuracy and no leading

If I were you, I'd start at .452" until you can slug the gun

Hope that helps
