Just got my first levergun a Gary Reeder- Marlin 1895 475 GNR (45-70 blown out straight to except 475 dia boolits)-18" barrel with 4 port Magnaport and Burris 4x scope.
I have plenty of the larger .475 caliber moulds-375,425,460,500 and 530 LFN's. I think the LFNGC moulds are the way to go,the WFN moulds I have probably will not feed but I will check it.
Guns Magazine did an article on this gun years ago.
Here are a couple of pics of the barrel and porting.

Incidently , John Taffin did the article in "Guns Magazine" about 2 or 3 years ago .In the article he has either 3 or 4 semi custom rifles by variouse makers . One was a Reeder like you have , Wild West had a 457 MAG and DRC and someone else had others .

I have been an advocate of the 475 GNR and 50 Alaskan ever sense I truley got intrested in Marlins 7 years ago [smilie=1:

I already have a 450 Alaskan I have yet to shoot , but at some point in my life I would truly love to have a 475 GNR and 50 Alaskan to test beside the 450 .

What use you might ask do I have a need for any of the three ? A truthfull answer would be no practical "need" just a really big "WANT" :drinks:

That is an engraving of a Cape Buffalo ! And if you were to look on the other side of the action there is an American Bison engraved there as well !!!!

That is what Reeder does to the "Buffalo Hunter" rifle when you get the entire package done :-D

My copy of Taffin's article is about worn to pieces. I've been thinking about an 1895 Cowboy re-worked to a 50 Alaskan or 50/110 for a long time. There's a million good reason to stick with a 45/70, but I'd sure like to have a .50 lever gun in either caliber. I really enjoy my 50/90 Shiloh Sharps.

Enjoy a fine piece of gunmaker's artistry.

475/480 , it is my understanding that Reeder sells correctly headstamped brass and Lee dies for this cannon !

Granted it should be a simple matter to form brass from standerd 45-70 cases . However in my own situation should I ever get one of these I think the correctly stamped brass may be a have to have . I load for 5 other 45-70's . So its enough of a problem keeping them seperated much less something else in different caliber with the same headstamp [smilie=1:

Hi ,
Yes there are correctly headstamped brass from Gary, the brass and the dies are from Hornady ,the dies used to come from Redding.
I am going to shoot the 475GNR during lunch today.
