Hi:

Does anyone have a .243 Cast Boolit load for Prairie Dog Hunting at 300 yards?

If you have done any shootying with the .243 and cast boolits at 300 yards I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Terry

That's a fur piece! Seriously though, best I could do with cast in a heavy Obermeyer barreled 6x45 AR15 was hold a coyote head size group at 200yd. That was on a no wind day. That a was fast 1/8 twist barrel though. NOE bullet molds show a few .243 molds in stock, that'd be your best bet. Considering the capacity relative to bore diameter, to get the velocity you'll need for that range, some of the 50BMG powders that are so cheap might work for you. Here's some of the NOE 6mm bullets, unfortunately, they don't have any of this model in stock.

The solid variants will be pretty heavily ricochet prone.

I don't have much trouble hitting them at 300 yds with the RCBS 95gr, boolit from my 243, but witha 1:9 twist I can't launch them much above 1800 fps so at 300 they aren't terribly impressive. Kind of inhumane to just poke holes in PDs and watch them crawl off. Now the 6mmX222 I built with a 1:14 twist is another matter. The NOE 75gr. boolits drilled for hollow points launched at 2600 fps will put the hurt on things at that range. That said, the 30-06 with hollow pointed paper patched #311410s at 3100 fps is a whole lot better still.

Pm replied to - remember #311410 and #31141 are very different. 30-06 can only get about 2700 fps with a #31141. Welcome to the madness if you start playing with paper patching!
