94 winchester problem

i have a 94 win. 30/30. sometimes when i shoot it the lever pops open slightly and the breech bolt travels rearward a few thousands. it does this with hot or low end loads. this is a pre 64 model.any ideas?

How can it pop open if you are holding the lever while shooting?

That is a common issue with worn older 94s. The lever is held up by a spring loaded plunger in the receiver that fits into a detent in the lever linkage. Enough wear and it tends to do as you describe. Not a big issue, just irritating.
