I was just wondering if anyone has tried win 231 or hp38 for 1 oz 12 gauge loads? ive searched the net for data on this in the past and couldn't come up with anything . but I found a link on this sight to adi powders and there listing hp38,e3,pb,win231,aa2,and n320 as equivalents within 5%. now I know theres data for 1 oz loads with e3 and ive used pb for 1 oz loads in the past with good results . now if these powders are all equivalents why wouldn't hp38 or win 231 work for the same load ?

I'm sure if someone had the pressure equipment to do the testing it could be done. That said working with a 10K psi. ceiling for the 12 ga and the fact that simply changing wads or primers can vary pressures +- 2Kpsi it's not something I wish to do. Your first indication of an overload could be your barrel coming apart.

If I just had to do this (zombies are coming over the wall and the only powder I have is W231) I'd look up the old data for using Bullseye powder in the 12 gauge that Alliant published and go from there. But this is a really, really bad idea. A pieces-of-steel-lodged-in-the-skull idea. Shotguns are a lot weaker than rifles, and tend to come apart in spectacular ways when things go wrong.
