Probably been covered many times but guess I missed. Win primers have on some boxes can be used either as a mag or standard---what in the heck is really the difference, some have for mag only or for standard, let the shouting begin. Thanks in advance.

Winchester's Standard and Magnum primers are made on the same production lines.

For "magnum" primers they sort out the ones above the mean tolerance for pellet weight and package them separately.

The Winchester primer mix is similar to that used by our military, in having powdered aluminum added as a metallic fuel. This causes hot incandescent particles to be distributed through the propellant charge to improve ignition. Doing so increases heat, but not explosive force.

Excessive brissance in a primer used with spheroidal powders should be avoided, because in below zero temperatures, as happen with machinegun and automatic cannon ammunition used in aircraft flown at high altitudes, the powder granules are more brittle. If they are physically blown apart, rather than being ignited on their surface, this exposes undeterred base grain to the combustion and increases the nominal burning rate, sometimes dangerously. While this is mostly a problem in automatic cannon and artillery ammunition, it is occasionally a problem in small arms, mostly in magnum caliber and special application sniper rifles rifles in which ammunition is loaded using slower powders in which the percentage of deterrent to base grain is greater.
