I just picked up later model H&R USRA 22 target pistol. Would love any info from someone that has shot one, The gun is in very good shape. Is this a shooter or collector gun?

Is that the break open single shot? An older Gun Digets from the late 60's or early 70's has alot of info on them. I remember fondling a few at gunshows in the mid to late 70's. I wish I had a little foresight back then. When do you plan on shooting yours?

In my opinion, that is both a shooter and a collector. There is some chance that you will never own a more accurate pistol, and the trigger is excellent. You can find out quite a bit by Googling h&r USRA Pistol. You might pay particular attention to http://www.thefirearmsforum.com/index.php , and perhaps do a search on h&r USRA pistol, or do a search on my handle and look at the second page. A good overview of the pistol's history is at http://www.ogca.com/usra_single_shot_pistols.htm .

By later model, I presume you mean that the serial number is in the high two thousands, or low threes (there are no high threes).

What length is the barrel?

While I wouldn't throw it in a tackle box for years, I don't see how occasionally shooting a used gun will hurt anything.

I think I would stick with match or standard velocity loads such as Winchester T22's if you can find any these days.

Thank you for the information. Yes it is a top break (my first one). I just picked it up today and hope to get to the range in the next few days. The pistol has a 29XX serial number. I will let you knowhow it shoots.
