Saw 2 levers this weekend in a shop. One was a win 94AE 44-40 for $750. The other was a Sears Ted Williams 30-30. Drilled with side scope mount in good shape. Wanted $350 or so.

Any opinion on the pricetags on either?

I have been haunting gunbroker looking for a couple of lever guns. The prices are right in the range I have seen there. The 45s go for a bit more, as do the 1894-1994 Centennial edition. The Sears seems to go for less only because it is Sears. In the past two weeks I didn't see anything less than the price you show.

I wrote the wrong caliber down.on the win. It is a 44-40.

Can't mount an effective argument against either, but the scope mounts for the top eject 94's had a miserable record for loosening. Do you load for either cartridge? For a fun rifle I'd take the Winchester. If my eyes were 25 yrs younger I'd get the Sears gun.

:I'd go for the Winchester in 44-40 at this point, but like so many others, the typical 94 in 30-30 was my first "big boy" lever gun. There have been many levers added over the years, in various calibers and from various makers. I just kind of have a soft spot for the 44-40 caliber. Both seem to be fairly priced for my area.

Those are pretty much dead on prices with what I've seen, lately. If anything, that Winchester might be a Tad on the low side. Those sears guns are dead ringers for the M-94 Rangers and pretty good guns for the money. the 44-40 is hard to find brass for these days, along with a lot of other non-standard calibers. 30-30 stuff is commonly available and a better hunting round.
