bigmike13, if you don't want it, I'll give it a home.

That's priceless.

I would personally try to figure out a way to keep that from getting gouged or scratched up.

As far as I am concerned that's ART. Gives the gun more character. Same thing I believe about every gouge, scratch, etc.

Everytime you see that you will think about the artist that did that, which was part of the point when he or she did it. I don't personally care yo the Mona Lissa myself, however wouldn't suggest painting some abstract graffiti over it either!!!

I have a Chinese Type 56 with some kind of chicken scratch on stock about 4" square worth, have no idea. Maybe I should take a picture and take to the buffet. Gtek

Keep the art ditch the sand paper it is part of the history of the rifle and makes it unique IMHO.

trench art is collectable, and will increase the value of the stock to someone ..

+1,000!!!!!

Do not destroy such an item. There have been many such stock carvings on rifles that have come out of Serbia/Croatia/Yugoland including some that depict American movie stars and one Yugo Mauser with a picture of David Hasselhoff.

This particular stock pictured has above average artwork. Please do not destroy such an item.

I'd keep it as a curio. The origin or history will probably never be known, so the dollar value won't be much, but I'd still keep it.

I've seen quite a few of these years ago. Yours are among the best of examples I've seen.

I say clean the grease and nastiness out of the stock and use a finish that enhances the appearance of the artwork. It gives you an attachment to the man that carried the rifle when he saw the elephant.

I used to be the President of an accredited museum in a former life.

I'd not do a thing to it that would alter it, and I'd preserve and use it for its intended purpose.

I just pulled out my stock for my Yugo and started to clean it up for refinishing when I found 11 notches cut into the foreend, wonder what they are for? Trench art has meaning ,let it stay.

If you like trench art, oil or varnish the art to preserve it. If you don't like it, get another stock or rifle.

I love the Yugo trench art. Here is the carving on my M59 stock. Nice profile of Rambo and initials.

" art" ------ Wow. To each, his own. I can see it is "history" but not
getting the art thing. Seems more like graffiti to me, which I despise.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned. If I were in charge of the bozo that did
that to a rifle, I do something to make him certain to never do it again.

There were horrible sectarian wars going on there, religion based.

Personally, I don't think I'd want to own something pertaining to that.
