main spring for handgun

Hi to all,Does anyone know how to give a mainspring new life? It is on a IverJohnson 38S&W.I was thinking could it be heated up and dropped in oil or water?

norm johnson, turtle lake, north dakota. one of the things he does is make springs. if you send him yours im sure he can do what you want, shouldnt cost that much.
