Howdy all.
Any one know where I can score the RCBS dies for 45ACP shot shells or if there is some one who would form some brass for me if I send them some cut down 308. I already have the dies for loading the shot shell.

Just curious have you read this thread yet?

Thanks, Yes I have. I should have made it clearer. I do have the RCBS Shot shell dies but not the set to form the brass from cut down 308 brass.

Send Roundnoser a PM. I believe he has the dies, or at least has them ordered.

Hope this helps.

CH4D makes the dies. FWIW .45 Win Mag is the proper length and size if don't feel like cutting down .308 brass.

I cut a few 308 cases to 1.18 OAL and than use the RCBS sizing shot shell die with plenty of lube. When I use the seating die it rolls the end over like a over killed roll crimp. The RCBS die set part number is 55000. Just have to wait for the 410 wads to show up.

The seating die should roll the top of the case over and make it look like an overkill roll crimp.

If you have the die set the sizer die should form the brass from 308. At least mine does.

I use a gas check over the top of the shot and put that heavy roll crimp to hold it in place. I would recommend annealing the case mouth to prevent split case necks.

I use a 41 mag size die to reduce the necks. Just size the neck to pass the plunk test with the case, lock the adjustments, and size away. Compare the cost of a Lee size die to the others.

The way I do it I charge, drop a .44 cal gas check on the powder, size down the brass, load the shot, put a .375 gas check on top and I use a star crimper. Doing it the way stated above will give you a bit more room for shot and cut down on the brass destruction. Mine feed from the mag and chamber great with the star, but I bet the rolled one does too.

I see no reason a .41 Mag die would not work great, that is a good idea.

I use a die made by our own BT Sniper. He is a regular member of the swaging part of this forum. It creates a star shaped fold at the top edge of the brass. I use it primarily as a start to the hollow points I make. But, it would also work perfectly as a starting point for a shot shell.

Here's what I make looks like:

I also have Brian's Star Crimp die, and I've used it to make blanks with. It would work just fine for making shotshells for handguns, too. I don't know about reloading them a second time, but they would certainly work well for the first loading. The only caveat is, his die isn't cheap...

Hope this helps.

Brass is cut and formed wads are on the way and in the process of making a dipper from a shell casing for a shot dipper/scoop. Now looking for just a couple of hundred 35 cal. gas checks. Any one got a handful they want to part with or split a order with me?

When I make mine I find the aluminum 35cal gas checks work the best, not only that they're pretty cheap.
