Im looking for a good full power load for this boolit. Im casting ww + 2% tin w/gc. and getting 312gr. Right now Im loading them with 29.8gr of H110 at 1.755", and asume Im getting about 1900 fps out of a 20" barrel. No overpreasure signs yet.

454 CASULL

Ballistic Coeff. .233

bump.... oh, and no leading either. 1.5" group at 50. Gun prob shoots better than that, but I dont.

I have run 27 Gr of 2400 with the same bullet in a test in my SRH 454
It is more velosity than I wanted
Groups were SO so

Max loads for 300 gr jacketed is 28 -29 gr depending on where you look , but they list 60,000 PSI and 1700 FPS out of a 7.5" barrel

I normaly only load my hunting ammo to 1300 - 1400 fps
Easyer on me and the deer are still dead

I use this boolit in all three of my .454 revolvers, plus a Puma lever gun. I use either straight WW, or WW 75% and linotype 25% and they weigh about 320 grs. ready to load. For maximum effort, H-110, WW 296, WC 820 and Lil'Gun yield the highest velocity and accuracy. For midrange loads, I use Bluedot. With this long boolit, Lil'Gun has an advantage because it allows more seating depth in the case. I've run into problems with H-110 and WW 296 filling the case so far that the charge was over compressed. As a rule of thumb, Lil'Gun can be used at about 95% of the same charge of H-110 and yield the same or better velocity.

so maybe im pushing it as it is then. Im going to chrono it next time I go over to my buddys house, and see what velocities im really getting.

I dont mind recoil all that much, but I do mind exploding guns.

On another note, I made a nice little hollow pointer jig for these little guys that uses a 3/16 drill. Major expansion at these velocities.

Naturally I can't answer that for you, but your load would not be pushing it in any of my guns....I use it a lot. Your guess on it's velocity agrees with what I've seen when chronographing my Puma.

What charge and OAL do you use with these boolits in your puma?

I seat the Lee to crimp in the front crimp groove, which is 1.670 COL., and 30 grs. H-110 or WW 296, 27 grs. of Lil'Gun. If I use the rear crimp groove, the cartridge doesn't feed smoothly.

Here's a picture of the boolit and some dummy rounds I made up. If you look closely at the round on the right, you'll see some rifling marks on the nose where it kisses.

Are you using the 2 or 6 cav mold? Mine will feed reliably, but not necasarally smooth crimped in the rear groove at 1.75-1.755".

what velocities are you getting?
