I have an older 760 that had a badly twisted action bar.
I discovered the carrier was brazed to the action bar.
Now, being over my head, I took it to a gunsmith for repair. He told me it shouldn't have been brazed together, they just snap together.
Is that really all there is holding it together?

Yes, action bar and carrier just fit together and kind of 'snap', but barely. The carriers are also know for cracking.

Early ones were "brazed", silver soldered together. But yes they just slide together. Once they are in the receiver they can't separate.

This one is an early one, with the vertical grooves in the fore end. The solder is bronze colored.
Thanks for the information on cracking, I'll have to look it over again with that in mind.

Silver solder has nothing to do with color. It refers to some of the material content of the solder. Yes it contains Silver.

Never did much soldering, or welding. I always thought silver solder was just a stronger white solder and that brazing was done with a copper material. Reading what you posted tells me that brazing/silver soldering are two terms for the same thing.
