I'm down to my last few kernals of 231. Mostly because I just reloaded a bunch of 45acp to resupply my stock. But now I'm looking at other powders because I cannot find 231 in stock. It seems that Longshot has listings for all the main calibers I load for which include, 9, 40, 10mm,357M, 41M, 45C and 45acp. It is also typically on my dealers shelves. I have almost 2# with which to experiment with at this point and I'll continue to add more as it allows until I can find a jug of TG or 231.

How much luck has everyone had with Longshot and lead? I'm thinking of getting what I can where/when I can, but dont want to get a non suitable powder. Might not be super optimal, but want to keep shooting.

While we are at it, I spied a 4#Jug of Blue Dot at my fathers. How well does it work in 9, 40, 357M, and 45acp? I've seen load data and have used it successfully in 10mm and 45colt. Sadly Alliant no longer recommends BD in 41Mag due to pressure irregularities.

Longshot worked great in my Ruger sr40 and GP100 using lead. I dont have a 45 yet so I cant tell you about 45.

.357 mag, 38 special, 40 S&W, and 10mm Longshot works great but recoil is stout in 40 and 10mm.

Dont waste your time in 9mm, very dirty and lots of unburnt powder. Might work better in a full size but in my subcompact it wasnt all that great.

Dont waste your time in 9mm,IMO wrong wrong wrong!
In the three 9's that I had Longshot gave target accuracy at max jacketed velocities. It was THE most accurate powder in the 9MM with 124 and 147 lead. I'm not talking light loads, I'm talking 1200 fps+ out of a Hipower with 124 gr TC and 1000+ with 147's. Longshot really performs at the top end. I see no reason to use it in light loads.

I'm using it in .357 with Lee 140 SWC in the 1200's, I forget exactly. Also I'm using it in a modern 32 S&W for a top end load using RCBS 98 WC at an honest 1000 fps with a 4" barrel. Also loading it in 32 H&R using NOE 314008 right at 1000 fps, a bit under usually.

Longshot meters great being a flattened ball powder. It seems to me Longshot works its best at about the +P to magnum pressures.

Since the shortages, I've gone through three or four pounds of it out of necessity, both in .45acp and 9mm. It's not my favorite or go to powder, but I've liked it surprisingly well.

+1

Longshot seems to be @ it's best with high pressure loads, p+ & magnum. It's 1 of the best powders I've ever used for the 9mm & that's al I've been using in the 9mm for a couple years now.

Bluedot is another 1 of those powders that seem to do it's best with high pressure loads.

Haven't tried it in the 45s yet but it is the best serious load powder for my 357sigs and 40sw.

It's an awesome powder in .40 and is also good for 1 oz loads in 20 gauge.

Works well for me in the 28ga and 16ga but like others have said it is a dirty powder if not loaded to high pressures.

I ran it in 45 Colt, 454 Casull and 45 auto and 40 S&W. It's true that you will need some pressures to clean it up and I also noticed it produced a bit more recoil but it is a decent powder. It'll will need around 17-18K to start cleaning up and is at the top of the 45 auto pressures. I had better results in the 45 auto with 230 grainers.

How is this powder in rifle? I was just wondering. Also where do you get the data for the handgun and rifle loads? I have not seen much for my search and only really find it for shotgun.Thank you

Not sure about rifle.

Plenty of load data at hodgdonreloading.com

Longshot probably wouldn't be that good for rifle. I've noted in the 454 Casull that down loading it produces some erratic velocities; it doesn't ignite real well in large open spaces.

Longshot is one of the few powders that I've found has a sort of "too much powder doesn't work" sort of pressure curve. I was working up some loads in 10 mm and found that at a certain point, velocity dropped when too much powder was added.. this was with the 9-> 40 cal jacketed bullets in 2 barrel length 610's.. It liked a certain sweet spot and would not go any higher after that sweet spot. I'd heard of other powders doing that, but this was the first time I actually experienced that phenomenon..
