Looking for LOAD DATA help.
I have H335 and IMR 4064 and, bullseye powder.
Looking for a light load that will cycle a Chinese SKS, not throw the brass far, and shoot a 160 gr. no gas check, PC coated bullet.( lee mold TL312-160-2R )
I just started casting for this bullet.
The only thing I have seen is the post by "Rangefinder" with an AK shooting 173gr bullet with 16gr H335, but I don't know if that is a light or heavy load for H335 powder. Any other help with loads for these powders?
Thanks

Russ...

1) If you'll scroll to the top of CB Loads/Military Rifles page, you'll find a 'sticky' titled "Practical Dope on the 7.62X39" with (9) pages of posts and articles on loading the 7.62x39...a single source for more information than you'll probably ever need.

2) So far as H335 loads, you might consider starting with the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook along with a good (hard-copy) reloading manual.

Thanks Bill,
I read the whole sticky and did not find any one with load data for H335 or IMR 4046 except for "Rangefinder" with an AK shooting 173gr bullet with 16gr H335. That bullet is a little heavy and I don't know how hot it might be.
I will check into Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook, does that have a lot of load data ?

I suspect that you're gonna find both H335 and 4064 to be too 'slow' for a reduced load in the 7.62x39. It's been several years since I loaded the short Russian but when I did, I obtained my best results with faster powders like AA1680 and AA2015.

Btw: that "16 gr H335/173 gr CB" should be pretty much a 'mouse fart'...my Richard Lee Manual gives a starting load of 27.0 gr H335 with a 150 gr jacketed.

Thanks Kraschenbirn,
That is really helpful to know a Lee Manual stated start load of 27 gr. H335.

You should try Juniors "hog load"..........I did and it's a winner. You'll have to break down and buy a can of 4895 though. 21-23 grains with a 170 gr. checked boolit. I know, you want to avoid checks but this load shoots SO nice and deposits the brass in a nice, neat pile. Start with the 21 gr. load and if the gun cycles o.k. with decent accuracy, stay with that.
