A week ago I went and got 2,578 pounds of lead, mostly it is sheet lead from an X-ray room, there were a few ingots and an 8 or 10 lb down-rigger ball plus a few other pieces of lead.

I got home really late at night so left it in the truck over night planning to unload it the next day, but over night it snowed 3 inches and has snowed a few more inches over the last few days so I have just left it on the truck, tires do not want to spin on the snow even when I try to make them spin a bit.

Here is a pic or 2.

That is a unique way to get traction. Sweet score.

Sure beats sand bags. If your winter is like around here this year, you may not get it unloaded before May.

I am sure that is not doing your suspension any favors.......

Hows the mpg with all that gold in the back? Haha, hope it warms up so you can offload!

It now rides a lot smoother, a previous owner thought it was a great idea to beef up the rear springs, they did the following to it, added an extra leaf to the springs, added a set of coil helper springs and then added shocks with coil springs on them. Empty it rides like a tank, bounces you all over the place.

The last load it had on it of lead was about 600 LB's less and it sat for a week or so before I got it pulled off.

Truck motor is about worn out, it has a 300 straight 6 in that should get around 20-23 MPG, but from the day I bought it about 5 years ago it has only ever got 11.5-12 MPG, loaded like this it gets about 9-10 depending on how much of that is uphill.

When I was young, we would go to the feed store and instead of buying feed for a day, we would buy feed for the week.

I used to buy 6 bags of softener salt for extra weight. It would end up in the softener eventually. Another time, I carried 2 150lb steel blocks in the back of the truck. Kinda wish I still had them.

I don't know who told you that straight 6 would get 20 mpg. 12 to 13 is about right and as you can see a load does not make that much difference to it. Nice score on the lead, sounds like it is where it needs to be for the time being.

Once upon a time I used a couple of 50lb. drums of R-12 in the rear corners of my 77 toyota pickup for snow traction. Of course it only cost about $.42 a lb. then.

Yeah, I put 300# of softner salt in the bed of the truck too.
I have 500# of lead sheet in there right now in one truck, didn't see any reason to take it out given the weather :)
The other has 4 sheets of cement board with the bathroom tile still attached to it. Probably 200# I'd guess. It's going in the dumpster in spring.

I've got 300lb of sand in the back of my s10. If it gets really bad I can use it under the tires min a pinch.
