View Full Version : IMR 4064 for 3030?

Anyone use this powder with cast? I have some seems to do well w gas check and 170 grain boolit (28grains of powder) . Just looking for others thoughts on this powder for 3030 cast. Thanks craig

I have not tried it in my 3030 but it is one of my favorite powder and it has been used buy marks man for years in the shooting world.

4064 is a good cast bullet powder for full charge loads in the. 30-30 because you cannot get enough powder into the case to exceed safe pressure. Just use a amount which fills the case nicely to the base of your well lubed, gaschecked bullet, which fits your rifle throat, which is of 13 BHN or greater, and cut loose. I load 30 grains with a 174-grain LBT LFN bullet.

I have never used any 4064. I can say that in my rifles H4831 is more accurate than H4350. (My two most accurate full power loads) but not enough more to put up with the occasional unburned powder grains left by the 4831.

I've used IMR 4064 in the .30-30 with cast and jacketed 170's and it worked well. I prefer 3031, but in times like these you gotta use what's available,
