300 blackout pistol length 8 inch barrel cast bullet experimenting

Trying out a new set up. I have an 8 inch barrel in 300 blackout on an AR pistol.

Will be trying 178 grain B&M 311169 mold gas checked lubed with Ben's red.
Loading 14 to 15 grains with lil gun. Going for a super sonic load here.

Also trying 208 grain lyman 311299 checked and lubed the same.
Loaded 8 to 10 grains lil gun. Going for sub sonic here but probably will go over.
Also checking here for function. Hoping to cycle the action reliably.
Also I don't have a way of checking bullet speed so that is for the future.

Will try for the range tomorrow. That I would start some discussion now.
Final results of what I am happy with to be posted later.
Anyone else experimenting with a like set up?

I tried a IMR 4227 load last week but was not cycling the action. Too light.

With the Lee 230 cast boolit - im running 9.2gr of 4227 and getting reliable cycling in a 16" barrel with pistol gas as well as 10.5gr of RL-7 for my sub loads - 1680 powder is on the way now

Careful with that super load. It's right on the edge. I run the 311-165rd over 13.5 lil gun for 1650fps out 10" barrel, about 14.5grs and primers were fairly flattened. That 200gr load is probably running about 1200fps.

To cycle the action with subs you are going to need AA 1630. With 220's and cast 247's it does good.

I whacked a deer last season with a 220 grain loaded with A1630 at 153 yards and shot right through it.

That'd be aa1680. Yes it's good for subs and supers. It's not the only game in town. I ran subs with lil gun by the hundreds.

A little off topic, but we are running the lab tests now on a new SP for Sub-sonic hunting use. Shoot me a PM if you have any interest. I'm looking for a few guys with hogs in the area to do some killing and report back.

You dont have to use 1680, other powder such as lil gun, and H110/W296 work for subs in a 8" pistol as well, but just is not as quiet through a suppressor. Red dot is super quiet, but won't cycle an AR unless you use some super magic mojo which I have not played with. One member here did get red dot to cycle subs, but adding a JP captured spring, and doing some other stuff is just not worth it for me. I would go with a heavier boolit for subs, 220, 230, or 347 if you have a 1/7 twist.
