Friend of mine would like to know what this rifle is. His father was in Vietnam, so I'm guessing a bring back. All that is on rifle is 6 digit serial numbers.

Thanks I have a mosin but not like this one. I thought it was at first but with no info on it and a completely different look I wanted to make sure.

What's different?

Receiver?

On magnifying the image, I see that it's not a Mosin bolt, is it?

Looks Mosin Nagant to these eyes. Have seen a fair number of 'jungle gunsmith' jobs in photos from SE Asia but it looks all Mosin...

Comparing with mine, I'd have to stick with my initial appraisal. I think it's the angle of the photo that disguised the bolt. Everything else is Mosin.

Doesn't look like mine. I'm no expert but at first glance I thought mosin til I looked at mine. I guess I've never seen a Asian sportsterized.

That looks like a Finncub. There were importers in the 60's that were cutting up Mosins and calling them a "Finncub".

He has had it for 30 years and never shot it. His father and him are no longer on talking terms but he was just looking at it and sent me a Pic and asked. He said it was the first time he's had it out in a long time.

Here is my "Finncub" it looked just like yours when I got it. I removed the sights, added a scope mount and a bent bolt handle. It turned out to be a very good shooter, very good accuracy.98300

.....

They're sitting in the back corner of closets all over the US. They got replaced by newer rifles and weren't worth enough to spend time selling them. And they still aren't worth much.

There has to be millions of them sitting around. Back home when I was a teen seem every other deer hunter used one. By the time I was in my early 20's all of them had been replaced and collecting dust.

That's true perotta, none on the market here in NY. When the milsurp sporter imports flooded the market in the 60's , the price was right for the average joe, and the firearms were everywhere.
