So which mold would you all recommend for a general use .30 rifle? I currently have the Lee 113 Soupcan, the Lee 150grFN, and the Lee 170FN, and they all shoot well as long as they're sized at .310-.311" depending on which of my .30-30, .308, .30-06 rifles I load them into. I keep reading about the Lyman 311041 and some seem to prefer RCBS offerings. Well, I haven't used either of them in any .30 rifle, but have both Lyman and RCBS in other molds, and both companies offerings work great. In the .30 rifles, I do seem to get slightly better accuracy with the 170gr Lee, which actually weighs 178 GCd/lubed out of my alloy, so would like to stick with something in the 170ish gr range, and I always preferred a flat nose design. So what do y'all recommend? The most common use would be paper punching, but the focus is hunting, and I use my hunting loads for practice anyway, so lets consider this a hunting boolit first and foremost?

My 30 caliber RCBS 180 is advertised to measure .309, but they drop @ .3095-.310" cast with linotype before sizing. So this may be a little too small for your needs.

I shoot the plainbase RCBS 150 grain Cowboy bullet in my 30-30, it drops from mould @.311, bore ride section measures .300". It is very accurate in this Model 94 and no gas check to fool with.

The 170gr Lee bullet is going to be hard to beat, especially if bullets drop from a good concentric mould. Be sure to debur Lee mould at bullets base.

+1 on that. Other than a slightly sharper nose taper, the Lee is essentially the same boolit as the Lyman 311041.

I'm a rookie in this casting game, but so far have amazed myself at the lyman 3118 sized to .310 in 30-30. Lots of potential here, gonna have some fun when it warms up.

Not much in the 170 gr weight range with a FN is going to do better than the Lee bullet you have.

NOE makes a 165 gr .311 mould I believe is a ranch dog copy

You can't beat the Ranch Dog 311-165, or clone there of. Just plain works.

My personal favorite is the Lee 312-185 sized .311. I use this bullet in an 03-A3 and it seem to do very well. For an inexpensive mold it should work in many .30 rifles and it may also work in some of the .31 rifles if the groove diameter of the rifle isn't to large.

The Lyman 311284 (210gn) sized to .310" has always grouped well in my Springfield 03A4. The barrel was a new 4 groove that had never seen a jacketted boolit!

I have been looking for a boolit mold in this size myself for my Winchester 94. The barrel slugs at .3105. I have looked at lapping a lee mold to get the extra .001" out of it to fit. I have some 32-20 boolits sized to .313 that I am going to run thru my .311 lee sizer and see how they shoot.
