Just started shooting cast boolits in a 308 Win. Looking for more powder applications(for what I have on hand). Has anyone tried Alliant 10x or power pro varmint? Both are very close to RE-7 which is considered an accurate load. Thanks, Steve

Try about 16 to 20 grains of 2400. It is my go to powder in the .308.

.308 is pretty forgiving when it comes to powders. For 'plinker'-type loads in the 1500-1800 fps range, it's hard to beat 2400 or IMR4227. At higher velocities (1950-2200 fps), I've achieved satisfactory results using IMR4198, AA2015, H4895, IMR4350, and IMR4064 with heavier boolits.

This load is very accurate in my Savage 10FLP but using the shot buffer is a pain in the butt. If I'm not in the mood to use buffer I use this load.
Bullet: RCBS 30-165-SIL (Leadhead/.310)
Powder: Accurate XMP-5744 26.0 grs.
Primer: Winchester Large Rifle
Case: Winchester
LOAL: 2.700

I get good results with H4895. That is for my M1A. Your options are many if you are loading for a bolt gun. I had reasonable success with Unique in my Rem 700.

I just love AA2495 in a Dillon 550B. Flows like ball bearings in powder hopper.

What about RedDot. After reading "The Load" by C.H. Harris i thought i would give it a try.

Any of the fast burning pistol powders should be good for low velocity loads w/ rainbow trajectories. Quickload and Quicktarget has been an eye opener for me.
