Has anyone tried it does it work? I have a Lee 160g mould and I'm getting a levergun. Will this combo work or should I get one of the flat-nose designs?

I shot the lee 160 in a lever as a single shot. I think shooting them loaded in the mag tube would be asking for disaster. Plus the flat nose is much better for hunting, only cost $20 for a lee mold, and shoot really good.

That's what I was thinking. I guess I'll get the mould Thanks, Jeff

You could hp the boolits with a Forester tool and run them in a lever action. OTOH, the RD-style mold is THE nicest 30-30 design out there in my opinion.

I know that Noe has the RD 165g fp but they are out. who else carries the RD design.

Hmmm, good question. You could probably design a very similar boolit on mountainmolds.com.

I'm trying to figure out how to take a screenshot of the site to post here...anyone help?

I am happy with that boolit in my lever but mostly shoot it single shot or one-in-chamber-one-in-tube. I have found that my RCBS cowboy action seater die actually puts a slight flat spot on top of the boolit so I am certain I could put more in the tube if I wanted too. FYI - That boolit shoots exceptionally well in my 308 as well.

When you have what you want on the screen find the print screen button on your keyboard and press it. Then open Paint and right click and paste or ctrl v. then save the file as a jpg.

once on paint hit control+v and it will paste it. ammohead is right, works like a charm.

Or just get one from Accurate. The 31-165D looks like a winner.

Not a lever but in my 325b they were amazing at 50 yds. Work pretty good pp.ed to fire form 30 Herrett also.

I have a box of Remington 30.30 factory loads. Every bullet is round nose. Try this, take a primed case, clamp it in a vise. Now take your round nosed bullet, hols with pliers, set the nose on the primer and smack the bullet with a hammer. I have tried this with many round nosed bullets and have never managed to pop a primer. I use CCI primers, different brands may behave differently.

You can also get a flat nose punch and put a small flat on the nose of a round nose. I have used this with a heavier round nose weighing in at 188 grains.

I also used a round nose in my tube mag lever gun and never had it go off....I've experimented with some rifle primers and shot gun primers it's not that easy to set them off.

You could get a Savage 99 lever action with its rotary magazine  The Lee 160 bullet shoots fairly well in my 99 chambered in 303 Savage.

Don't be overly concerned about a roundnosed boolit--I shot a great many of the Lee 160rn, as well as the 311-291 lyman in lever action silhouette, and saw many others doing the same with zero problems. The only one I ever saw that came apart like that was a Marlin .307 Winchester loaded with 147 grain milsurp FMJs.
Do not try that combination.

A trick I use with 311466's in my Lyman 45 lubri-sizer is to set the stop somewhat short of allowing full depth and using a flat-end nose punch to shorten the boolit and make it a flat nose. Run the boolit into the die until the nose punch/ram contacts the die nut and tighten the stop screw until the die punch contacts the heel of the boolit. Raise the boolit some and tighten the stop screw another half-turn or so, run the boolit back in until the ram is stopped by the die nut and see how big the flat nose is. I stop when it's .220 in diameter. This is a good way to control the boolit length to +/-.001 to .0015. Perfect for a .30-30 M94 I shot them in that was once for sale. Once we lapped it and the load was developed, that thing would hold MOA at a hundred. . . . Once the owner saw how well it did, he realized how badly he needed to keep it.
