I am in the process of refinishing this bad boy. It came with everything but the tie rod. Now for those of you who own one of these....how do you catch the spent primers while resizing? The bottom of the RCBS shell holder is open so it looks like I might be able to insert a tube under it. Thoughts?

Welcome to Cast Boolits.

Great find you have there!

I have seen primer boxes that guys have made that bolt on where the shell holder goes. I believe Reloader Fred used a spray can top. Or maybe it was him or another guy that used a prescription bottle as well.

To me, the problem with SOme of those "solutions" is you now have a dedicated single stage press. Kind of defeats the purpose of this press.

I did something different. Not the purdiest thing, but works great. I bought a " Glad" brand plastic food container. I took a razor blade to carve the shape needed. And just drilled a hole for the primer post.

The only weird part was the rubber band. The container being flexible had "spring", so spent primers would fling out as soon as I would raise the handle (due to compression). The rubber band stabilized the container and no more shooting primers.

Forty5r;

Nice looking Press, hope to see it when you are done. There are people here who have turned their press's into new shiney masterpieces with their style of restorations. Hope they chime in so we can all learn a little. Again good score.

Looks Great!

BTW, all is not lost by missing the tie rod. That extra hole in the turret is great for storing another die. Or, if you are kind who peeks in the case after dispensing powder, the extra hole is great for the powder measure.

Edit: I did not realize at the time of my post that the Tie Rod hole on the turret had been drilled and tapped for 7/8 x 14 by the previous owner.

Well its all cleaned up and mounted to my work bench..... :) I even resized 300 pieces of brass with RCBS dies. For some reason a few got stuck but due to the breaker bar size handle.... I was able to get get them out with a little muscle.
