With the high cost of lead it only makes sense to maximise what you have and try to keep as much as possible. Anyone given any thought to having your own bullet trap so you can re-use your used bullets?

What would be a good trap to effectively contain your spent bullets and not have anything bounce back your way? Some have mentioned rubber strips in conversation and yet others favor a more traditional way of a steel container of some type.

So, what would work? Please do share ideas.

The best homebuilt ones I've seen are thick, hard armor plate at an angle. The lower horsepower loads you shoot at it, the cheaper plate you can get by with, but if you cheap out and then slap a hotrock load at it you risk craters, dents, penetration etc. Also the closer the distance, the tougher the plate needs to be. As for angle I've seen shallow, steep, and good ole 45. I'm planning one with 3/8" AR 400 at 45 degrees with a wheeled sand tray and 1/4" side skirts. Should stop anything I own.

I always liked the one on Jerry Mickulek's range.

I don't think my club would approve of something that large. It also doesn't look very portable for those of us who don't have a personal, private range.

Free worn truck tires. Set one down and fill it with dirt. Stack the next, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat.
Use two t posts with wire strung between them to hold targets with clips.
Lead recovery is by shaker screen like looking for arrow heads.

Nice but it looks like the back is starting to bow down some.

Maybe you need to shoot the center with something big to push it back into line

and kind of hard to miss.....

That was the main goal, able to practice transitions, shoot machine guns and have newbies shoot and none "get away".
