New RWS 34 Classic

The toy truck arrived today and brought a new RWS 34 in .22 caliber. I know very little about air rifles or even know any one who does so I read everything I could find and asked a few questions.

After looking the rifle over I am satisfied with the quality of the finish. It was almost to dark to shoot but I wiped the bore out and made sure it worked. The rifle has a TO6 trigger, I wish some of my 22 rifles had a pull this good. I don't like some of the plastic parts but it seems to be part of life these days.

I have a lot to learn, proper hold, maintenance and what pellets it likes. I guess the fun begins.

I shot a couple of groups and set the sights at about 15 yds., I'm pleased so far. Five shots across the Chrony averaged 685 fps with RWS Superdome. I will try again after I break it in.

I let a buddy have my 34 in 22 when he couldn't find 22 ammo. I sure miss it. Mine shot Crosman Premier 14.3 Walmart tins of 500 pretty good.I think I got a bit over 700 with those pellets

They are well built rifles ,very acurate. They move a good bit before the pellet leaves the bore ,as do all spring piston guns. Remember not to rest it on anything solid ,it will dance around on target. On second thought ,shoot some with it resting freely on your hands then ,when you know what to expect.rest it directly on sandbags and shoot a group. Experimenting is fun ,groups with my Theoben went from 1/4 inch at 25 yards to over an inch and moved on target by several inches!
I thing here are pellet tryout packs available from several vendors, keeps from having mostly full tins of pellets the gun doesn't like!

My 36 is very hold sensitive. But my model 48 can be rested hard like a regular rifle and shoot well.

100 yds, 5 shots with one I picked up a few months ago, about 4 1/8" with the Benjamin 14.3 grain pellets.

that's pretty good groups at 100 with that 34.

Love RWS air rifles, I have a 34 pro compact that I shot a ton of squirrels with when I lived in Ga. They are very hold sensitive but after you figure them out they are a blast. I shot mine so much I was unaware there was a 22 ammo shortage for the longest.

Meant to add my 34 likes the Crosman Premier from Wal-mart. I tested a lot of pellets and always come back to the premiers.

I have found it is hold sensitive. This one seems to like the RWS Superdome and the Gamo Diabolo. Wal-Mart had the Crossman Premier Pellets a week ago, but are out. I will give them a try as soon as they have them in stock. I still can't believe the trigger on this thing. I like the two stage trigger, guess I got used to them from shooting military surplus rifles.

Another RWS 34 fan. Very accurate and great for hunting rabbits and squirrels. Can't beat the trigger.

The RWS 34 was my answer to the 22 LR ammo shortage. Have the wood stock in .177 (refurbished) and synthetic in .22. Bought the synthetic with a scope and mount package and sold the scope and mount on ebay making the cost of the rifle about $170. The .177 is fine for squirrels. Prefer the .22 for rabbits.

Go to the yellow forums or the dedicated air guns sites. I have a 34 that I tore down and put a new seal and new grease and new macurri spring. The gun is a whole lot better once I did this. With crossman .177 dome pellets the cheap ones I can drive thumb tacks at 35 yards no problem. What I do is set up a 4 foot 4x4 and put the tacks into and then I shot them from 30-35 yards, it's a real kick and I guess it's a tack driver lol. I shot pest squirrels in my garden and either hit them in the ear or in the eye.

that's the best shooting RWS 34 i have heard of.You got a good one.It out shoots my TX200 and most Field target rifles.To do it with non premium pellets makes it more amazing.

Hey George I did rebuild the gun with quality after market parts, I also did some trigger work. I tried alot of pellets jsb, crossman, h&n alot and was also amazed that cheap 5 dollar a can pellets shot the best. The jsb heavy's also shot damn good just not quite as good. I had some dieseling for the first 100 shots or so after I rebuilt it and think I went a little heavy on the heavy grease on the spring. Once it went away it is a great shooter my friends shot it can't believe how smooth and great it shoots. My next purchase is a .25 marauder

the accuracy of a good air rifle will amaze you. I bought a 300S a couple years back, twenty years back, before the PCP era, they were shot in the Olympics. A typical 10-shot string would chrono, 570, 570, 571, 570, 570, 570, 570, 570, 570, 570fps. They will teach you breath and trigger control. Off a bench, at ten meters, mine is a one-holer.
