Stopped by to visit my friend who owns a county gun/pawn shop. He had 1800 guns in stock and when I asked what is new and interesting, he handed me a 1911 built Savage 99 in 30-30. Been used and carried, but the bore is bright and clean--no rust.

It followed me home and it is a drag in that it is raining a little and I can't go shoot it right now. It had an older Redfield 4X on it and rear sights missing--I may have an original set of sights in my possibles box--will have to look and see.

Good for you, I'm betting that that thing has played in the rain before. lol I know mine has. Some will harp on it, but it is drilled and tapped for a scope, I like the fact that mine is too.

Beautiful old rifle. I have a 1936 vintage 99 in 30-30, 20" carbine. What a fantastic shooter. Mine never was drilled and tapped for scope mounts but is drilled for a receiver sight or a tang sight. I search for a long time and found a NIB Lyman #30 1/2 tang sight. The sight is fully adjustable for windage and elevation. Pics of my carbine.

Nice find. I love 99s which is why I've purchased two in the past month.

I picked one up that looks like that one (99H??) in .303 Savage. So far, it's been a good shooter with cast. Handles very nicely.

Excess650, it is not a takedown. I have 99s in .303 Savage, 300 Savage and .308 Win, but none of them are takedown models. This is the oldest one I have.
