OK, trying to get off work early enough to go pick this up tonight. Anyone out there have one? From what I've seen they seem to prefer the 200 Gr Hornady Leverolutions, but also the Rem 200 Gr SPs. I've got some of the Hornady, but may need to pick up some Rem.

I've got a late model 336C in 35 Rem that is almost new -- I plan on conducting side by side tests to compare the MG and Ballard barrels. I know the feeling here is that either is capable of good work, but would like to put them side by side for load development/testing of factory loads.

I've got the three latest 360 GBs (180 PB & GC, 200 GR), , but haven't dropped anything out of them, so I'll start there with cast. Alloy will be (unless you tell me different) will be WW, AC and/or WC. Sizing TBD. Have Bullshop lube to use, some old Tamarack, and a little RCBS green. I have been toying with making some at home, Felix or the crayon/candle + motor oil recipe that appeared a couple of days ago.

Can anyone offer me a good starting point load for the GBs?

Thanks in advance.

Josh

Check this out for me...

I believe both of those rifles have the Micro-Groove rifling. I have a 336D and it has the "***336D***" on the barrel indicating a Ballard rifle barrel but it has the MG rifling. Marlin said they screwed up and the Ds should not have the "***". I believe the only 35 Rem rifles with Ballard rifling are those manufactured prior to 1956. It's easy to tell, if you have 12 grooves it's MG... 6 groove is Ballard.

My 1953 "K" (I believe) is a 7 groove.

Michael -- will do, but the descriptions I've read previously on this limited run and what I've read on other forums indicate Ballard. We'll know for sure tonight!

I have a 336SS LTD in 35 Rem and it has Ballard rifling. Here's a thread about this LTD model. http://shootersforum.com/showthread.htm?t=30656
I only tried one bullet with mine, the 200 Rem CoreLock RN, and have no need to try anything else. I'm just under the max load of IMR 3031 taken from the IMR handout booket.

Yes, indeed, my 336 LTD has the six groove Ballard rifling. Next step is optics -- that factory buckhorn just won't do it.

There's an old bullet test thread on Leverguns, and the winner hands down was the 200 grain Remington RN bullet.

I've been trying 4064, 4320, 748, and AA2520 in my 50's vintage 336A. 2" is about normal accuracy. I'm going to try some cast with AA5744 and AA2015, and also try some of my hoarded RL-12 powder on my next trip to the range.

Thanks for the barrel info 0802 and Steelbanger. I'm going to make a note of that. Oh no Lloyd, this is one of those rifles that will be in my estate sale (I suspect all my Marlin will be). I don't treat it as such, but the "D" is about the perfect Texas Ranch/Truck rifle. I do try to hunt with it often but will do more with it once I'm finished with my TLC359-190-RF.

I have the 336D and that Remington Core Lokt 200 grain round nose is about all I have ever used . Matter of fact I have about 400 of them in stock just in case for this rifle .
I have also shot a few of the Sierra 200 grain RN in this rifle as well and they did just fine also .

Ranch Dog,
I just traded a fellow, even up, one of my older 39A's for his 1950 model 336SC in 35 Rem, so now I have two 35's. Last year I had none. It's all your fault because of letting me use your 35 on the hog hunt!
I haven't a mould for 35 rifles and am wondering just how long before you expect to develop and market your 35 rifle bullet. Incidentally, I'm in on you group buy for the 2 cavity 30 cal and I hope it arrives before my casting season is over in the spring.

6pt-sika,
I had limited time to hunt this season but I did kill a doe with that LTD 35 and the 35 Rem. bullet. Deer didn't move a bit, just died instantly. Big exit hole so no bullet recovery.

Merry Christmas to all you fine folks out there in cyberland.
And Happy (no Hillary) New Year.

Steelbanger,

Lee sent me a message that the TLC359-190-RF is being cut this week. These are the test molds. I dropped the bore rider nose that the "180" had. The extra bit of weight comes from a better fit in the throat/leade and the CG/CL shifted for the better. As with all my bullet designs, I want a bullet with such a perfect fit that you can hammer the heck out of it and still have outstanding accuracy. I want jacketed bullet performance.
