Sliver Shooter

I know this question has probably been around the block a time or two. I am going to start shooting cast boolits in my 7mm, 30cal., 303cal rifles. Most will have volocities below 1500fps. Some with GC and some FB. I have lots of Lee Alox. Would tumbling in the alox be a good lub system for these type of rounds or should I be lubing the groves with something else? The alox is a clean and easy process but would it sufice in the rifle.?

At 1500 fps I think yes.

yep, you could shake a little locksmiths graphite in the tub too.
but 1500 fps,,, no problem.

should work.
you might be able to go a little faster with 45/45/10 mixture of Johnson's Paste Wax (JPW), Lee Liquid Alox (LLA) and odorless mineral spirits (MS)

I have been using 3 coats of 45/45/10 in my 30-30 at about 1800fps with no leading.

Soft lubes work fine. I just will not wrap my boolits in a coating.

I thought I was the only one left ;)

I want to know how your doing it. I used to make a mess when I used the lee alox.
To answer your question, I started with the lee stuff in my 30-06 and the lyman 311041. Worked fine for me but it made a mess of my fingers, the dies, the ammo boxes etc. Don't remember the loads but I think I started with some 4895 reduced substantially. I was hooked with casting from there on with the groups I could shoot with whatever combo it was.

Perhaps he followed the directions? Or even better read Recluse's sticky and made 45/45/10? I think we all over-do the liquid Alox when we first try it out, I know I did and had a sticky mess on everything too until I figured out how little it takes.
Personally, I don't use it much at all any more but it does have its place.

Silver Shooter....If you thin your LLA with some spirits and lightly tumblelube/coat your boolits...AND... then lightly dust them with motor-mica after they are dry..... AND.... your boolit to throat/bore relasionship is good.... AND your alloy is right for the task at hand you can likely do what you want with ZERO issues.....add a gas check with this system and you CAN get up to about 1800fps in most rifles pretty accurately..... UNLESS some bore/throat issue is afoot.
