I just picked up 5 bars of 50/50 solder brand not marked and was told there was the rest of a full box available . the 5 bars weight 8.3 lbs. the need to know is the guy was given the box for free he said that there was a small pallet with many boxes stacked two high! and wood I want to buy them all? thinks he can get them for a good price, my good problem is I have 4 wheel weight supplier's that will be ready to sell 1 or two 5 gal buckets each. I need to do some quick math and see how much cash in hand I will need . i know poor me ,I have put much in leg work. I travel 300 miles a day in my job and have worked these contacts over the span of many weeks and I don't wont to come up short with any of them. thanks for any info you can supply . donald

well the best answer I have found is they are boxed at 50lbs. around 31 bars to a box of the weight I have . best guess is a small pallet with two layers deep is 20 boxes at 50 lbs+1000 lbs I am going to need more money.lol

Why, scrap hard lead is only $.50 a pound in my area. ;)

big demand for lead here .scrap yards sell any lead for $1.00 pound and pay and pay .22 to 28 cent a pound for hard lead and soft for .50 to 60 a pound for soft , so many try to get it before it gets to the yard , thus driving up the price, some tire dealers want $ 70.00 to $100 per 5 gal bucket .they wont get that from me but some do pay that and that's the problem.

The principle value is the tin. Maybe a bit nosy- what's the price you're paying?

I would offer about 15¢/lbs. given its makeup. See if he counter offers but I would not pay more than the scrap yard price. Or just offer him a set bulk price. Not much use for the 50/50 sticks. I have several made by Oatey. They were for the old steel gutters of the 50's era. I made ingots from them and keep them aside. They tend to pop up every now and again so I pick them up if they are available. Even have a half box laying around here somewhere. I get pure lead, or at least 98% pure and mix it till I get the desired ratio needed.

If it is 50/50 then retail it is worth up to $10.00 a pound. You could sell it all day long on Ebay or here for $5.00 per pound or even more. Consider that 100% tin retails for up to $20.00 per pound. There is a member here that had some 60/40 that was priced too high, around $12.00 per pound for tin content, still a decent deal, and last I saw it was still sitting unsold.
