I have a marlin model 336 in 35 remington. It sat in some ones closet for 40 years and rusted. It is in brand new condition in the bore (when I got it it looked like it never got shot), but the out side looked like it sat on the bottom of the sea for the 40 years. anyways it has not had enough shot though it to be broke in, and I will not pay $10.00 a box for the jacketed bullets. It is picky about what kind of design bullet it gets, but does like my new lee bullet, and my moose bullet of the RCBS 200gn fngc. I was wondering if any of you have a full power load with IMR 4895 with the RCBS 200gn bullet. I would like a load with enough power to kill a moose, and that shoots good at 100 yards (maybe good enough to shoot one hole groups with the iron sights on it).
Thank you

............Well Daniel /BS Jr, I sure wish I could quote a load to you that will kill a moose, and shoot into 1" at 100 yards with your iron sights, but I cannot. Wish I could as I could probably make some money with that ability :D. Hopefully a bit of load data will help?

First of all I do not own a Marlin 336 but do have a 35 Rem built on a small ring Mauser action. Their strengths are similar. I don't think you'd be able to get enough 4895 into the case to get you in trouble, but I'm not going to say "Fill it up and cram in a boolit".

For my situation I was using some surplus WC846 with is "similar to, like, bears a resemblance, acts somewhat like, etc" to BLC-2. Maybe a tad faster. The only 4895 I currently have is surplus and it is a bit slower then the canister 4895's I'd had before.

If what you have to use is 4895 I would start with about 35.0grs and then work up in 1.0gr increments with your 200gr slug. I'm sure you'll run out of case capacity before you reach your optimum velocity. If so, and you and your dad don't see excessive pressure indications, you might want to start over with something like H335.

What happened to me when I started messing with WC846 (ball powder) is that the more powder I put in, the faster the boolit went (200gr Saeco #356 FNGC) and the tighter the groups got. That is until I ran out of case capacity at 41.0grs and a bit over 2200 fps. You can check CASTPICS as I think the data is there.

Good luck with your new rifle!

THANK YOU BUCKSHOT!!!!
The reason I asked about the 4895 is because we have about 25 pounds of it but We also have 16 pounds of WC 846. I will start at about 38.0gn of WC 846 and work up. thank you for the help!
