The 475 has the short cylinder. You'll have to remove the rear sight. Instructions are included, very easy to do. What barrel length did you get? You'll love the sticker included in the box.

At first they came with no base so I made one for the 45-70 BFR. (See avitar.) My .475 did not come with one, then newer ones did so I called MR and they sent me one free. I had to drill and tap both guns.
Now the gun is drilled and tapped and a base included.
The 45-70 has two Ultra Dot rings and works fine but the .475 and .500 JRH needs three. When you order the UD, it comes with rings but get a spare set of rings. They really are as good as after market rings.

David I had one, BIG. The grip is too. I carved a set out of walnut like the ruger grips. PM me your address and I'll send them. Not finished and need screw hole drilled, and the screw & nut.

Glad to hear you part picked up the bfr you will love. I popped for the factory micarta grips and am so glad I did. I also cut mine to 5.5 inch barrel and it handles so much better now. Your super Redhawk will feel left out real quick now

Hey check out Tom's 48-405 I had Tom cut me that mold for use of .475 brass. However with my mystery range lead they drop out at 415gr but I've been pleased with the way shoot and hit. I do recall you had a good variety of molds for the .475 but you can never have too many

SWEET. A BFR 45/70 has been on my wish list for a while now. I keep trying to trade the neighbor lady out of hers, but she likes teasing me with it tooooooo much, to sell it. lol

Congrats on the new gun.
I'm kind of hooked on the BFRs. I've got them in 45-70, 475, 500S&W, 500JRH with octagon barrel, and 45/410.
I love them all, but think that I'll trade the 45/410 for a new rifle.

I did the same thing, sold my SRH to my friend (deadly accurate with a lot of deer) But I could not sell my old SBH.
My .475 is 7-1/2" and there is NO WAY I would shorten it. It makes accurate loads harder to find.
My .54 Hawken drops deer right now and the .475 is the only other gun that drops almost every single deer right now with no meat loss. Of the five I shot with it last season, 4 went right down and the last made 20 yards.
I can't explain the caliber at all, it is super for deer but will also take any animal on earth without changing the load.
The BFR is so accurate you will never make use of what the gun can do.

Never enough molds if you want to try some of the 48-405e let me know. Did I tell you I met Tom? Super nice guy with more knowledge about bullets that can be imagined and was willing to talk and answer my silly questions

That meeting would be an interesting one
I may take you up on the offer for the boolits
but first I need to get mine ironed out I am using some 390,400 and 420gr's

That 420 you use was the basis for the 420 I use. I just changed the nose profile to a tangential profile. I've had very good luck with it and that nose profile in general. In a way its your fault I even shoot the srh in .480 and went on to the bfr. After you got the srh and told how accurate and easy to shoot I just had to have one and the bfr was the next logical step for me. I can't part with ruger at least until they are a lot easier to find again. When your ready I'd be happy to send you some bullets. I'm also looking into picking up a marlin 45-70 GBL just in case you need help pissing off your neighbors haha
