I would like to make a new style piston with O rings to replace the old style piston in my Lyman 45.nodes anybody know the thread size and pitch of the rod that the lube piston turns on? I'm not very good at internal threading on a lathe so I'm going to just turn it to size externally and then tap the center hole, assuming its a thread size I already have.

A. Don't you have the existing parts to measure the threads ?
and
B. Lyman offers the item you want to make for cheap, "Replacement Parts 4500/450 - ( 2) Pressure Nut (with two o-rings) formerly 2990146 $5.00 " it also works on the 45

The thread is a National Fine one, I am sure, and the diameter appears to be 3/8".
But, JonB is correct in saying that what you seek is easily bought from Lyman.

Huh...just another example of why you shouldn't assume. I just assumed Lyman would charge 20 bucks for it like most companies that rip you off for replacement parts. It's not worth the time to make one for what I can buy it for.

To answer the first question: yes, but my sizer and I aren't in the same place at the moment and just now is when the idea came to me.

Thanks for the link!

Just be aware that they changed the pitch sometime (don't remember when) so if you want a painless swap, get both the pressure nut and the pressure screw from Lyman....
