I plan on casting bullets that take a gas check. If I powder coat them, do I still need to gas check them? I've been reading up on powder coating cast bullets, but haven't seen anything on this.

If it was made for a gas check, I give it a gas check. :cbpour:
Aluminum ones aren't very expensive.

Did you hear about Doe Run?

Some do, some don't. It has been hashed out in the 101 page PC thread. After you read that one look at the accuracy thread and see what is producing the results on that spectrum. Once you have got that information it is really up to you to decide if you want to use them or not based on the results.

Welcome to the forum. There is a ton of information here. Hope you like to read.

Here's a link (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?231689-smooth-boolits)
Once it moves down a little, it won't mean as much to future searchers if the title is off the page. 8-)

What I am worried about is the gas check coming off. I shoot with a suppressor and I don't want a baffle strike. Hence I am very interested in shooting without a gas check or milling the shank off.

I am not sure if putting the GC on and coating would serve to keep the GC on the bullet?

When pullin some 308 GC coated, sometimes the GC stays on. But they are really hard to pull. The 1 I recovered still had the GC on it. I might anneal the GC, install with a large sizer, coat & cook, size. I've tried removing GC from errors, really hard to do.
edit: tried to pull the GC with pliers. Bent the boolit, GC didn't come off.

Why bother with a GC on a coated boolit? Seems superfluous.
Don't suppose it would hurt anything but isn't that what the PC coat is for?

I didn't read all of that other thread (the huge one).
