I was wondering about shaving the gas check shank off this mould. Then it dawned on me to ask here and see if anyone had already done it and if so, what were the results?

Just looking for a little lighter cast bullet for my monster.

I've not done that but, if you have access to a milling machine or a lathe and four jaw chuck it should work fine. Just make sure the blocks are held square to the cutting tool so the base comes out flat instead of angled. Anything less than a flat square base could cause accuracy problems.

I sent mine off and had the shank area reamed. That way my bullets are heavier instead of lighter. They turned out well.

i had a tool&die friend take some off of a RCBS 30-180FN mold to make a 135gr plain base and it shoots just fine.

Thanks for the replies soo far.

I have a Lee 6 hole 45 cal TC mold that I had some taken off the bottom to make it a 200gr. boolit and it works fine.

I am looking to get rid of the gas check and make more of a plinking bullet. I will have to file the shank off a boolit I have and see what the weight would be.

Thanks
