I just acquired a well used Versamec 20 gauge reloader in a lot buy from a friend. I already have a sizemaster in 12, 16, 20, and 28. Was thinking of purchasing the 410 conversion dies from Natchez and start cranking out some 410 for the kids. Anyone here have an opinion on the Versamec? I have no experience with them being as they were out of production when I started reloading in high school in the 90's.

I've no issue with them.
Particularly if you'll be doing hundreds per session. If you find you need more than several hundred a day, upgrade.

Nothing wrong with the Versamec, have used mine for close to 35 yrs. I think it was basically a 600 with what MEC calls a pro-check, which I think the 600 has now.

The pro-check was the obvious upgrade. The sizer was remodeled too, to allow better sizing on short brass and very long brass.

I have a Versamec in 20 ga and Sizemasters in both 12 and 20.

I like the Sizemaster because it takes so little effort on the upstroke with the collet sizer.
Pulling the sized case out of the Versamec sizer ring on the upstroke is not that noticeable until you have used the Sizemaster

For the .410 it should be fine though the die set may cost you more than 1/2 the cost of a new loader.

Been using a Versamec for better than 30 years. I change dies from 12 ga. to 20 ga. when I need to rebuild my supply of shells. Only thing I ever broke on it was the bottle holder for the shot bottle. I wouldn`t use the extra large bottles on the 700, don`t ask me what it`s like with a full extra large bottle of #7 1/2 shot all over the floor!Robert

The 600 is a good learning tool but the sizemaster is the better machine by far!

Considering the price of the conversion I think I'd sell it, if I wasn't into it to far cash wise, and apply the proceeds to a sizemaster in 410 in all honesty it's the best single stage shotgun press on the market.

12 and 20 gauge are the two most popular shot shells so it might have a decent resale value considering the way MEC's have jumped up in price the last two years!

The only shotshell loader ive every owned in the past 40 odd years has been a Versamec in 12g, never had any problems after many thousands of rounds loaded, i loaded for trap / skeet and hunting.
