Thinking about a barrel in 357mag how does it handle 200gr rifle cast boolets. I know it is 1-18 3/4 twist. Thanks, Rod

Rechambered to 357 Max it does great with 200 gr and good with 230's.

I shoot both the LBT .359-180 LFN GC and the Lyman .359-215 SWC-gc boolits in my Handi with excellent results provided I seat them out to touch the origin of the rifling. I have used various loads with WC680, Wc820. Alliant 2400, Unique, RX-7, etc. etc. As long as the boolits touch the rifling and pressures remain in the pressure limits of the .357 mag. you are good to go.

Latest Maxi loads use 180 Nosler Partition-HG bullets (no longer made) 8( I stick to 158 gr. in the magnum cases. 8)

This is kind of on the same subject. Is there any load data for the 180-200 bullets just barely seated in the case? Seems to me that by opening up the case capacity the pressure for standard 357 would drop. I would like to see how hard the standard 357 mag can be pushed in a handi with the bullet seated out.

Two schools of thought, but if they shoot .38 Special just fine, why worry about seating Boolit out. If that is important, get some .357 max brass and trim it down a bit. The .357 max will almost chamber as is.

There are at least a two different twist rates on the Handi 357s. ~18" and ~15". I have one with the steeper twist, and it shoots 200 grain round nose J-bullets (sierra or hornady) reasonably well all the way down to 1000 fps. The factory throat was so long that you could seat a 250 grain round nose without hitting the rifling, so I rechambered it to 357 max.
