I'm having my Ruger Blackhawk 30 carbine revolver converted to 300 GNR by Gary Reeder. Choosing a cast bullet design is tough. Any suggestions?

Curious what a 300 GNR is I looked at Gary Reeder's website. Interesting! I guess now I'll have to get my Ruger Blackhawk out of the safe and measure the cylinder and a 30-30 case because looking at the side by side picture of the two it seems a bit long. I guess if he's doing it that it must fit, sure looks long though.

What boolit you choose will probably come down to how deep seated your willing to go and what will actually fit the cylinder. First thing that comes to mind is 311410, FP or HP, gas checked for sure in that cartridge.

Here's a video forming the case.

That makes sense, here is what I looked at. About the middle of the page on the right, what appears to be a full length 30-30 next to a 30 GNR.

If this is the same cartridge that I spoke with Gary about quite a few years ago it is similar to a 30 Herrett, just a little shorter.
There is another cartridge called the 30 Streaker developed many years ago by another person and published in a gun magazine.
I might even have a cartridge that Gary gave me out in the garage.

The link in post #5 clearly shows the 30 GNR as a full length 30-30 case and the 300 GNR as a shortened 30-30 case, it does look much like the 30 Streaker.

I hated shooting my boss' .30 Carbine Blackhawk. That thing hurt my ears!

Ear muffs or ear plugs. Hearing protection is a good thing cause then ears don't hurt during the shot or ring afterwards.

A quick way to become deaf is to continue shooting that .30 carbine revolver with no hearing protection.

The .22 Mag. in a revolver is right there with it.

An ear piercing crack that is terrible with no hearing protection.

True at the range, but I don't concern myself with that while hunting. This shot was taken just before packing up and heading out. I declined the other 5 shots!

He's not really of believer of neck tension, apparently...

The neck is short for sure but unlike the 30 carbine in the Blackhawk, I can use a bit of roll crimp. Do that to the 30 carbine round and it falls into the chamber throat.

Not if you use 32-30 brass for 30 Carbine.

I thought of that but then it occurred to me that if I was going to start cutting brass I might as well get more out of it...thus the 300 GNR decision.
