I have a couple of bottles of Lee liquid alox that I got with their sizers and I want to try to make a lube for my Lyman 4500 with it. Could a mix of beeswax, LLA, and carnauba wax work?

that would work fine.
a 70/30/3% mix [wax, lla, carnuba]would work just fine, you could throw in a little lanolin too if you have it.

just mix the b-wax and paraffin 50-50 and soften it with the Vaseline [about 1 tsp to 1.5 oz's wax] then add in the lla. [probably another tsp per too]
this should make a fairly soft malleable lube, if more mushy is needed or the lube is crumbly add some more Vaseline to the mix.

Ummmm, is this a recipe for rustproofer or boolit lube? :kidding:

What he said. I started using the paraffin to make my beeswax go farther. Then when LLA came along, started using not so carefully measured squirts. Kind of makes up for vaseline being less petroleum like, if you know what I mean.

How firm is this 50-50 beeswax paraffin lube compared to something like 50/50 NRA lube? Will it get runny in 90+ degree weather?

It's firmer than the NRA formula. You can adjust it up or down as needed for temperature.

OK so maybe 1tsp of LLA and Jelly per 2 oz wax?

I love the way Gear puts it. :-D
Alox under fenders but it will fail there too and the metal will rust. Remember the German rust proofing? It was Alox and all of my cars rusted out faster with it. Water and salt got behind it and ate and ate.

I got a bottle of it with my first sizer, and at that time I didn't realize that 4 oz would lube a half billion boolits and so I ordered a 32 oz jug of it from lsstuff, and then I got a half dozen more sizers with a bottle each, and then I got a Star and no longer use LLA and so now have about a 4 lifetime's supply of LLA to use up!

Would you say this is a luber only type lube, or can it be used as a pan type lube also?Robert

Flux your smelting with it (outside - it stinks).

Yeah, and the bad news is that it probly (as per the ultimate lube guys' present thinking) buggers up your bore condition anyway. Funny, they're now looking at a lube like the old NRA formula that NRA liked before the 50/50 alox/bzwx formula. See 357 Maximum lube thread.

I've used a lot of 45-45-10 from http://lsstuff.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=31
Have to say I'm very pleased with it. Easy to apply and does the job.
