Tried to search it on google. Tried to cut down a tap holder and make a mount for my rcbs trim mate but have trouble getting it to run true. Please school me.

I do not want to buy Corbin die. I have the mini chop saw I use for making 300 Blackout. I saw a pic someway of a rcbs hand trim set up with a tap holder attached. Would like to see that pic again. My ideal set up would be a three jaw chuck for my powered rcbs trim mate. Would like to make 22lf into shorts. Any someday soon 22 Mag.

First try fail. For trim mate. Next gonna try make a bit and cut the end of the tap holder like a 308 case.

I use a HP mini chop saw and made a jig with my RCBS case trimmer. I basically made a 22mag chamber and cut it off at the length I wanted. I got a pic here somewhere.

I haven't used this method on 22lr jackets but I have trimmed 375 tubing jackets this way. I use my milling machine to do it. I chuck a Lee case trimmer cutter in an R8 collet on the spindle, then I use a 5C collet with a collet stop in it. The 5C collet is in a collet closer on the table of the mill. It only takes about a 1/8 turn on the collet closer to lock in the jacket or remove it. The quill stop is used to cut all to the same length. It only takes 7 to 9 seconds per jacket. BT's method using the RCBS case trimmer works well too. I just got tired of making a special jig for every jacket I wanted to trim.

I use a HF mini chop saw and a little jig I made up from a nut, bolt and washer. This allows ajustability. I use it for 17HMR & 22mag. Just push the case in from the back side and hold with finger. After cutting I pop it out with a piece of rod.

Dang didn't work. I cut down the pilot I use 223 brass to fit inside of case. Looks like I should be good to go. It spins but doesn't cut. ? Is there a smaller rcbs cutter. Am I missing something?

RCBS Lists two smaller Pilots for Case trimming:

.17 Remington #17
.204 Ruger #20

Might try the #20 for the Ruger .204. Or; polish your #22 down until it supports an easier fit into the mouth.

Looking forwards to your progress. Appears this would be a lot less costly to duplicate compared to the Corbin or other's dies for cutting down the jacket length.

2nd try using LE Wilson and trimmer
Whiden Gunworks 22 cal meplat trimmer holder.
So far so good the pressure on the case keeps it from spinning and I am only trying to take off .003

I use a pinch trim die in a regular reloading press. Works in any standard reloading press and I will also offer them for sale..... U.P. North

Hey Marten, is that trimmer adapter an RCBS part or did you or someone else make it? If it is not available commercially, I will try to make one. It looks like you ideally want a chamber reamer to do it but I'll try a taper pin reamer and see if that will work.

Bob

PS: I just thought, if we trimmed before derimming, I could make a standard RCBS trim pro shellholder to fit the 22 Mag case. I already made one for the 5.7x28 and it works fine.

When using the whidden cutter do you have to have your cores seated? In other words can you trim just the jacket.

Hey Guys new to forums. Is it consider rude to ask a question within someone else's post. Is this called high Jacking. Sorry if I did this.

Usually if some one knows your answer They will pm you, that way you don't take away from some one else's post. Don't fret when you are new you never know how they are going to act, good people here, be patient just create your own post.

Yeah it's hijacking, but the free flow of information is what makes this a great site.

ok so I wanted to be able to trim cases so all things considered I would make great bullets. I want to be able to have uniform jackets. Right now i have trimmed very few just goofing around. When I cut the jackets I found that sometimes I need to debur em, this is rough if the core is seated. That said I prefer to trim after the core is seated. So far everything I have done or made is just to prove it will work. I have not really spent a bunch of time trying it out. I will soon. last point after testing my bullets I dont think it made a bit of diff what the bullet overall length was. So pretty sure I will not be trimming unless its 22 Mag stuff. But prob not 22 RF

You can do either. Before you buy one give me a while to make sure it works.
